Use-by-date inspection systems

Automated use-by-date checks for safety-critical production

Verify every printed use-by date against the active product rules and prevent missing, unreadable or invalid dates from progressing downstream.

Control a critical label statement
Purpose-built vision inspection

Build repeatable verification into every production run

Use-by information is too important to depend solely on periodic visual sampling. An in-line vision system captures every code, validates the date and format, and communicates a definitive pass or fail to the line controls and reject system.

Complete-string check

Verify the date field and any required prefix, time or accompanying batch information.

Expected-value comparison

Compare against a recipe value or a date calculated from production and shelf-life data.

Readability threshold

Set a controlled tolerance for contrast, character shape and code completeness.

Fail-safe action

Reject the pack or stop the line when inspection or reject confirmation is not achieved.

System outcomes

Consistent control of every use-by date

The system applies the same approved rules from start-up to changeover while giving operators clear evidence when print quality begins to deteriorate.

01

Inspect 100% of packs

Check each individual date at production speed without interrupting normal flow.

02

Manage changeovers

Link inspection recipes to the active product so the expected date logic changes with the job.

03

Support investigation

Retain configurable result data and failed images to help diagnose printing or handling faults.

Application engineering

Inspection and rejection engineered as one system

A valid decision must be followed by dependable product handling. We establish trigger position, tracking distance, reject timing and confirmation logic so the failed pack identified by the camera is the pack removed from production.

  • Controlled product spacing and tracking
  • Recipe and expected-date management
  • Positive reject confirmation
  • Full-bin, air-pressure and access monitoring

Frequently asked questions

Use-by-date inspection questions

Every inspection begins with real samples, representative print and the operating conditions found on your production line.

Can the system stop production after repeated date failures?

Yes. Configurable logic can alarm, reject individual packs or stop the line when a defined number of consecutive failures occurs, subject to the agreed controls design and risk assessment.

Can use-by dates be checked on transparent film?

Often, yes. Backlighting, polarisation, colour selection and mechanical presentation can improve contrast, but representative film and product samples are required for a reliable trial.

Can operators change the expected date manually?

This can be permitted, restricted or removed from the operator interface. For higher-control applications, the value can be supplied automatically by an authorised recipe or production system.
